Rep. Giegler Supports Plan to Fix Deficit

The mitigation plan for the current budget year, which ends June 30th includes:
- Expands the beverage container redemption law to include water bottles
- No cuts in state aid to cities and towns, no tax increases, and only limited use of the state’s rainy day fund.
- A change in ConnPACE, the state’s prescription drug plan which will save 30,000 seniors an average of $1,200 a year on prescription drug costs, while saving the state money
Rep. Giegler added, “As families tighten their belts, government should set a good example, this plan eliminates wasteful government spending and hopefully sets a cooperative tone for the remainder of the legislative session.
Rep. Giegler also noted, “I am especially proud of the work we did to take out cuts in special education funding and local bridge repairs, which were included in the original bill. The legislature should not cut special education funding to municipalities while towns are already hurting to balance their budgets.”
